The journey that the football has made reached not only Europe's entire continent but also America and Asia. This can show the important mileage that the game has done. The game is not only loved and viewed by men but also by women and children from any age or race.

There are tournaments that take place on a permanent basis each year such as the "Champion League" and the "UEFA Cup" in Europe, in addition to the "CONMEBOL" in South America. In certain years such as 2008 there are special football tournaments unique only to this specific year.

Below you will find information regarding the largest and most important tournaments that will be held this year (2008) in different locations around the world.

• Euro 2008
  Known to be named by the "2008 UEFA European Football Championships", the tournaments will take place in Austria and Switzerland during June 7 to June 29 2008.16 football teams will be participating and competing in the tournament. The different teams will need to qualify in specific criteria's which will help determine which of the teams will be playing either in Austria or in Switzerland. The classification to the countries has started already in 2006. The winner of the Euro 2008 will represent the UEFA in 2009 FIFA Confederations Cup in South Africa.
  
• FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup
  An important game that will occur for the first time in 2008 is the Women's World Cup FIFA. This is a Championship special only for women competing in football which will be held in Canada.
  
• The UEFA Champions League
  This annual Championship is composed from three preliminary knockout qualifying rounds. The winning team in this competition for 2008 Manchester United in a tournament held in Moscow, Russia.
  
• Copa America
  This is a main football event for men competing on national level. It is governed by the "CONMEBOL"-the South American football confederation. Participating countries are Argentina, Brazil, Ecuador, Paraguay, Venezuela, Peru, Colombia, Uruguay, Bolivia and Chile. To enter this event, there are no specific requirements that a team would need to meet although if they have won a match in the World Cup finals they will most certainly be invited to the game.
